NASA's "International Observe the Moon Night" at Heritage Trail Park! In-Person
Come join us at Heritage Trail Park at 9 PM on Sat., September 14th, as we celebrate NASA’s “International Observe the Moon Night” with the help of our friends from the Indiana Astronomical Society! Speak with professional astronomers, observe the moon through a telescope, and participate in a moon-inspired craft for all ages. We will be providing hot chocolate & hot apple cider to keep you warm!
Join us an hour early, at 8 PM, to hear Dr. Aarran Shaw from Butler University talk about some of the most fascinating objects in the Universe: black holes. We will be meeting at the Heritage Trail Park pavilion, so be sure to bring a lawn chair as seating may be limited. We can’t wait to see you there!
In his talk, titled “Black Holes Don’t Suck,” Dr. Shaw will share how black holes form when a massive star dies in a cosmic explosion called a supernova, and how they’re so dense that not even light can escape from their gravitational pull. Dr. Shaw will talk about how we find them, where we see them, and what happens if we get too close to one. Dr. Shaw will show you that, contrary to popular belief, black holes don’t suck!
